1. Calculated results, not shop drawings

OptimalLayout produces cutting layouts, sheet counts, waste percentages and cut lengths with an automated optimization algorithm. The results are mathematical estimates based purely on the numbers you enter: sheet size, kerf, panel sizes and quantities. They are not verified shop drawings and are not reviewed by a person before you receive them.

2. Always verify before cutting

Measure your actual boards before cutting. Real sheets often differ from their nominal size, they can be out of square, and edges can be damaged in transport. Check your saw's real kerf with a test cut, confirm the grain direction of every visible part, and add your own trim allowance for factory edges. A layout that is mathematically perfect can still fail on a sheet that is 4 mm undersized.

3. No liability for material or cost

You are responsible for your own cutting decisions. To the maximum extent permitted by law, OptimalLayout accepts no liability for wasted material, incorrect orders, project delays, financial loss or damage resulting from the use of our layouts, guides, calculators or PDF exports.

4. Safety

Nothing on this site is a substitute for the safety instructions of your saw, panel saw or CNC machine. Follow the manufacturer's manual, use appropriate guarding, support and personal protective equipment, and never rotate or rip a part in a way your machine or experience does not allow — even if a layout suggests it.

5. Educational content

Our guides describe general woodworking practice for sheet goods. Materials, adhesives, coatings and local building or fire regulations vary by country and by supplier. Check manufacturer data sheets and local rules for your specific application, especially for structural, exterior, marine or fire-rated work.

6. Third-party content and advertising

The site may display advertising and link to external websites, suppliers and manufacturers. We do not control and do not endorse third-party content, products or prices, and we are not responsible for them.

7. Availability and accuracy

We work hard to keep the optimizer and the guides accurate and available, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted service or error-free content. Found a mistake? Please tell us so we can fix it.
